SUSAN RONALD
Susan Ronald is an internationally recognized commercial heritage tourism expert . She takes great pride in making history matter and accessible to the public through her work, and has advised the British government on numerous major projects as well as England’s National Trust on strategic projects within its portfolio. She has written many articles on historic subjects, a popular history of France for young adults, and the six hundred year history of the Sancy Diamond entitled The Sancy Blood Diamond.
Her third book, The Pirate Queen is a biography of Queen Elizabeth I and her merchant and gentlemen adventurers. It portrays the queen as England’s monarch, and how she strove above all else to secure her realm, even if it meant stooping to piracy as an expedient. She encouraged Drake’s hatred of the Spanish king, and consciously used personal vendettas of her adventurers to her own ends. But whenever these adventurers put out to sea, it was virtually impossible for her to control them, and unlikely and unexpected results often arose contributing to the transformation of England from a backwater to world power during Gloriana’s reign.
Susan is currently working on her next book, The Drama Queen, which will explore Queen Elizabeth I’s influence in the arts, and has two further non-fiction history books in the research stage.
Born in the Los Angeles, California, Susan Ronald has lived in Oxfordshire, England for twenty years with her British husband, and is British and American. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts (FRSA).
