Selina Hastings

Selina Hastings, biographer and literary journalist, was educated at St Paul's Girls' School and St Hugh's College, Oxford. She worked for 14 years as assistant literary editor on the Daily Telegraph (1968-1982) and for 8 years as literary editor of Harper's & Queen (1987-1995), and has acted as a judge for the Booker, Whitbread and Duff Cooper Prizes, and of the UK Biographers’ Award.

In 1985 she published her first biography, Nancy Mitford, followed by Evelyn Waugh (winner of the Marsh Biography Prize, runner-up for the Duff Cooper Prize) in 1994, and Rosamond Lehmann in 2002. Her latest biography, The Secret Lives of Somerset Maugham, will be published in September 2009.
